Product development
Modern product development, with ever shorter development times and the fastest possible market launch, is only achievable if feasibility and functional reliability are assured from the outset with the help of analysis and simulation.
With our network of designers, manufacturers and consultants, we offer holistic product development — from the first ideas and sketches, through a feasibility study with simplified calculations, to production drawings and verification by analysis. We also support you through the subsequent prototype build, the testing phase and commissioning.
Product development runs through several steps, described below:
Research and ideas
The first step in product development is to break the task down into sub-tasks and find suitable solutions for each one. Here we draw on the wealth of experience of our staff, whose cross-industry knowledge often provides fresh impetus. We use methodical design techniques such as the morphological box or weighted point evaluation.
If desired, we also take care of the patent search. A literature review rounds off this step.
Concept development with basic sizing
Various concepts are developed from the brainstorming and examined for feasibility. The different variants are visualised in 3D, pre-sized and assessed against criteria including:
- production cost
- manufacturing process
- complexity
- potential failure modes (FMEA or DRBFM)
The variant to be developed further is then chosen from these in consultation with the client.
Detailed design
The variant chosen at the end of the concept phase is worked out in the detailed design phase. In this step we:
- carry out geometry optimisation on the virtual prototype
- run collision checks
- analyse operating loads and misuse loads
- provide strength verifications in accordance with the applicable codes and standards
- carry out tolerance analyses
- investigate robustness against parameter variation using statistical methods
- select materials
- create 3D models, 2D production drawings and parts lists
To support you as fully as possible, the technical drawings are produced in your own layout. So that they can be used directly, we can — together with our partners — offer CAD work in the following systems:
- Solidworks
- Creo
- Inventor
- Catia V5
- SolidEdge
If you wish, we also help you find suppliers for prototype manufacture and testing facilities for prototypes. We accompany you through the prototype tests and compare the measurement results with the simulation results.
Where needed, we also support you with "as-built" drawing sets for your product.
